Therapy Resources & Self-Care Insights

Guidance for Your Mental Health Journey

Welcome to The Difference Counseling Services' resource library. This page brings together practical guidance for anyone considering therapy, navigating a difficult season, or simply looking for ways to care for their mental health. Whether you are exploring counseling for the first time or returning to the work, the information below is offered as a starting point — not a substitute for personalized care.

Taking the First Step

Reaching out for help is often the hardest part of the journey. Many people wait months or even years before contacting a therapist, believing they should handle things on their own. In truth, seeking support is a sign of strength and self-awareness. A first session is simply a conversation — a chance to share what brings you in and to learn whether a particular therapist feels like the right fit. You do not have to have it all figured out before you begin.

What to Expect in Therapy

Therapy at The Difference Counseling Services is collaborative and client-led. You set the pace and the agenda, and you are always the expert on your own life. Anne blends tools from several evidence-based approaches — including trauma-informed, strengths-based, and identity-affirming practices — but the therapeutic relationship comes first. Sessions are 50 minutes and are available in person in Grand Blanc or through secure telehealth across Michigan and Florida. Many clients begin to notice meaningful shifts within four to six weeks of consistent work.

Everyday Self-Care

Small, consistent practices often matter more than dramatic changes. Regular sleep, gentle movement, time outdoors, and meaningful connection with others each support emotional well-being. Notice which coping strategies help you feel grounded — journaling, breathwork, creative expression — and give yourself permission to rest when you need it. If you are in crisis or your safety is at risk, please call 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) or 911 immediately.
